Sorry Day Walk

Marrickville Residents for Reconciliation organised a candlelit walk along the Marrickville Indigenous Interpretive Trail to commemorate National Sorry Day on Monday 26th May. Over 60 people attended the evening’s event. Participants stopped briefly at Indigenous signage and story poles located in Steel Park and Warren Park before completing their journey at Richardson’s Lookout overlooking the Cook’s River.

In an address at the end of the walk, Peter Dixon, from Marrickville Residents for Reconciliation, lamented the lack of progress that had been made in implementing the recommendations of  the Bringing Them Home Report.

John Butcher from the Gallipoli Centenary Peace Campaign also spoke and encouraged people to sign a petition calling for Richardson’s Outlook to be designated a Peace and Reconciliation Park by Marrickville Council in April 2015. By the end of the event, over 30 people had signed the petition.

All 54 recommendations of the Bringing Them Home Report can be viewed here.  An online version of the Peace and Reconciliation petition can be accessed here.
